Richards Lane
Sydney - 2019
Gadigal Land
Once a steam laundry that gained complaints from neighbours for the dense black smoke pouring out of the chimney in the late 1800’s to then become a manufacturing chemist at the turn of the 20th Century, the 35 Richards Lane building has a rich history in Surry Hills. The Original Victorian Classic Building of 1886 (with a further renovation in 1936 which gave it an Art Deco appearance) is now our office which we share with MHNDU Architects. We took over the building in 2019, stripping back layers of tired office renovations to reveal the beauty of the heritage spaces inside. Exposing bricks, polishing terrazzo and concrete floors and exposing timber ceilings we embraced the quirks & scars. The building provided all of the character needed and has given us a space we love to work in everyday.
