Sydney - 2019

Land of the Gadigal, Birrabirragal & Bidiagal clans

Sydney is known for its Victorian terrace houses particularly in the eastern suburb of Paddington and its neighbours. Until they were protected from demolition in the late 1960’s a lot were sadly demolished. This project, designed by architects MHNDU is a modern interpretation of a terrace house. The new housesits next to a surviving Victorian terrace and takes on the proportions and scale of its neighbour. Inside though the planning has been contemporised, with more light, cleaner details and open spaces. One of the most striking elements of the design is the garden. The bright green is beautifully contrasted against the graphic black and white materiality of the interior. Loft-like in aesthetic filled with modernist furniture it’s a very architectural space, which is most fitting for an architect and his family.
