Belleview

Sydney - 2025

Land of the Cadigal people

Belleview is a renovation of an existing Mediterranean-style house by MHNDU Architects. The owners loved the original home and wanted to keep its character, updating and expanding it after more than twenty years with very little change. The neighbouring site was purchased and allowed the house to open out into the landscape. The gardens, designed by Dangar Barin Smith, became a key part of the project, reinforcing the Mediterranean feel and creating a strong connection between house and garden. A tennis court was added as part of this broader setting. Inside, the aim was for the house to feel relaxed, comfortable and lived in. French oak herringbone floors run throughout, with a natural, earthy palette that feels easy rather than formal. Arched windows and doors line much of the house, allowing light to move through the spaces and creating constant views to greenery, the pool and gardens. A large spiral staircase in polished plaster sits at the centre of the home. Materials are kept consistent -  linen, velvet, abaca, seagrass, terrazzo and limestone - giving the interiors a sense of cohesion and elegance.
